Family - Rhinotermitidae
Subterranean
These termites are serious pests of timber in service and are common in eastern Victoria. This species are characterized by having soldiers of two distinct sizes major soldier (6mm in body length) and minor soldier (4mm). A colony consisting of both major and minor soldiers is a likely sign that a large mature colony with the potential to cause severe damage is attacking your home. The absence of major soldiers indicates that the colony is either weak or not yet well established. Schedorhinotermes eat both softwood and hardwood timbers, usually attacking the moist areas of the home and often have multiple nesting points in dead tree stumps.
